The Cabasa is a hand-held percussion instrument of African origin, which is now quite popular in Latin Jazz music.  It is easy to play and comprises a wide cylinder around which loops of ball chain are wrapped.  The cylinder is fixed to a long, narrow handle.

Ryan Judd presents an excellent demonstration of how to use the Cabasa in his video  Ryan is a board certified music therapist with a master’s degree in music therapy and psychology.  His website was awarded a Top 50 award for best music therapy blogs in 2017.

Hold the Cabasa by its handle with one hand.  Curl the fingers of your other hand to form a cup around the ball chain cylinder.  Scratch/rub the beads across the cylinder by moving your wrist to produce the sound.    

The Casaba can be wiped clean with a damp cloth and any household multi-purpose cleaner and disinfectant.  

Do not use abrasive cleaners, as they could harm the surface.

Do not submerge the unit.
